Methodology

Our information design and documentation process follows a researched-based technical writing methodology:

Plan
The documentation plan, developed in close collaboration with you, identifies the project's purpose, audience, scope, deliverables, staff requirements, and schedule.
Design
A sequenced content outline is developed based on careful review of source material and/or interviews with subject matter experts and managers. Consistency of look and feel across all products is maintained by use of templates, style guidelines, and writing conventions.
Development
We gather and synthesize material and develop the product to the specifications in the documentation plan and content outline. We test the products with staff who will use them and make changes based on the test results.
Implementation
We assist you with implementation efforts, such as staff training or communication related to the product. We coach you on how to update and efficiently maintain future changes to documentation.

Online Tutorials and User Documentation

LaborKey, Inc. was signing on software clients rapidly. With few employees to offer phone support and little user documentation, they needed to offer clients a basic manual as soon as possible. They also wanted a short presentation of their software capabilities to be delivered from their website to market to potential clients. Catalyst determined the most fundamental processes and created task-oriented documentation that would get users up and running quickly. We used Macromedia Captivate to create a 5-minute presentation/demonstration with voiceover and animation.

Website Marketing Content

Advanced Telemetry Systems wanted visitors to their website, potential buyers, and educators to understand how their radio collars and other tracking products were used in the field. Catalyst modified complex materials from technical and academic sources into web marketing copy that showed how wildlife biologists and researchers used these products to conduct their field research.
