Organizational Performance

Organizational Performance | Training | Information Design and Writing | Education

Catalyst partners with you to identify workplace performance issues on the organizational, departmental, or individual levels, design solutions and then implement them for long-lasting impact. An initial assessment may identify issues of work quality, productivity, efficiency, staff competence, or communication between departments, for example. Depending on your parameters, we may recommend wide-ranging changes like new strategic plans, work processes, or staffing structures, or smaller yet effective efforts, like training on meeting facilitation techniques or time management.

Methodology

Some fundamental elements of our organizational performance methods include:

Partners with Clients
We secure commitment from key stakeholders and find a project “champion” who will help us navigate obstacles to success. We encourage active involvement of stakeholders at all project stages and often form a project advisory team to ensure buy-in, accountability, and feedback.
Focus on Outcomes
At the beginning of each organizational performance project, we gain clarity about your desired outcomes and how those outcomes support your mission, vision, and strategic goals.
Systems View
We recognize that change in one area of the organization is sure to result in change in other areas, so we view your organization as a whole rather than treating its parts individually.
Data-driven
Our conclusions and recommendations are informed by data gathered from applicable sources using data collection methods that are logistically and culturally suited to your organization.
Process Improvements
Drawing from principles from Lean and Six Sigma, we look at ways to improve processes through reducing waste and eliminating defects.

Work Samples

Organizational Restructuring

The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits wanted to improve the effectiveness of a department with organization-wide impact. Catalyst conducted a performance assessment of the department including task analyses and studies of work effort, culture, and best practices. We teamed with executives, managers, and staff to produce recommendations for departmental restructuring, all of which were implemented by the organization.

Knowledge Management

The Legal Aid Service of Northeastern Minnesota needed to improve electronic file sharing across five offices. Catalyst assessed their information sharing needs, reviewed the existing electronic file system, and researched best practices for knowledge management. We recommended changes that will enhance data integrity and collaboration among their multiple office sites.
