Catalyst conducts curriculum and educational program assessments for a wide variety of government, nonprofit, and business clients from the U.S. Forest Service Woodsy Owl and Smokey Bear programs to Family, Community, and Career Leaders of America, a national youth leadership programs with chapters in every state.
Our evaluations typically serve our clients in one of three ways, to make adjustments to curriculum prototypes before sending products to market; to prove effectiveness or value of the program to funders; or simply to improve existing curricula or revise it for a new audience.
Our educational assessment services include:
- Evaluation design and implementation
- Local and national field tests
- Creation of data collection tools
- Research of subject matter accuracy
- Evaluation of state board of education and national standards
- Training of data collectors for geographically dispersed field tests
U.S. Forest Service Symbols Program: Using the popular Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl characters, Catalyst designed and coordinated field evaluations for three “Fun Pack” curricula for use in school, at home, and in after-school programs. Our experts analyzed the existing Junior Forest Ranger materials from all U.S. sites and wrote recommendations to streamline programming. Then, we wrote design plans for the Train the Trainer program.
Family, Community, Career Leaders of American (national youth development program): Catalyst conducted curriculum evaluations of Character Education programs within several school districts across Minnesota and coordinated data collection with the youth and adult leaders of these programs. We designed data gathering techniques, methods, and tools, including a survey of adult advisors, and used the results to inform the program’s strategic direction. Next, Catalyst analyzed data and wrote and presented evaluation report. In addition, we conducted program evaluations of the Teacher/Advisor Development Program and the Passenger Safety/ Anti-Drunk Driving Program. Lastly, we designed pre/post-tests, interview and focus group protocols and data gathering tools, then analyzed the data and wrote evaluation reports.
