New Business Processes

Project for Pride in Living is a large non-profit addressing the housing, human service, and employment needs of low income Twin Cities residents.

Client Need

Our Solution

PPL’s five jobs and training programs were operating in silos. The executive director and top management wanted to streamline their services to ensure that all clients entering any program would graduate with the same core competencies. The Communications department wanted to be able to use this information in proposals, reports to funders, and in the annual report to the community.
Through facilitated meetings with the managers and directors, we created a new business procedure and associated tools which supported the desired reporting capabilities. This included a comprehensive skills and knowledge matrix, a “Competencies and Standards” checklist, and other reporting forms.

Workplace Protocols and Quality Control Measures

The Improve Group is a professional research, evaluation, and planning firm that helps organizations deliver more effective services.

Client Need

Our Solution

The Improve Group was growing quickly. The owner wanted to feel confident delegating critical project-related tasks to her new staff so that she could focus on sales and marketing. She also wanted to enhance information sharing practices within her company.
We developed protocols and quality controls for staff to follow when communicating with clients and delivering presentations, writing reports, and devising data collection tools.  We recommended a staff intranet for information sharing, feedback, and posting weekly status reports.

Program Evaluation

Powderhorn Phillips Cultural Wellness Center (PPCWC) is a community center whose mission is to unleash the power of citizens to heal themselves and to build community

Client Need

Our Solution

PPCWC needed culturally sensitive program evaluation methods for its Community Systems Navigator program, which uses culture to empower clients to build self-reliance networks. Documentation of outcomes was nil and unreliable; oral feedback was the norm.
We created a data collection system and forms that workers used to capture critical information. We analyzed the data and presented findings to directors that were later used for reports to funders and the annual report.

Time Management Programs

The USDA Forest Service National Symbols Program (FS) creates educational programs and services, i.e., Woodsy Owl and Smokey Bear.

Client Need

Our Solution

The FS had a dispersed five-person work team located in various states. They wanted to improve their communication and ability to finish projects on time. They needed a process and tools to help them better coordinate their efforts.
We created and delivered a 3-hour seminar on time management, tailored to the needs of a geographically dispersed team.  Two sets of tools were designed: one for individual use and the other for the team as a whole.
