Catalyst and St. Thomas Professor Team Up

Nancy Weiss, CEO and Chief Consultant of Catalyst is helping the University of St. Thomas link up graduate students in the Department of Organization Learning and Development with nonprofits and businesses in the Twin Cities area. These students are nearing the end of their studies and require a practicum to graduate. Practicum projects require 200 hours of applied work in an area of organization learning and development of interest to the student. Examples of previous practicum projects include the development of a performance management process for a small manufacturing firm, planning and conducting a strategic planning process for a local social service agency, developing and delivering a leadership training and retreat for a small business unit of a fortune 500 company, and developing a wellness strategy for a company, etc. Students set objectives, provide deliverables, and complete a log/journal of their work as well as a short reflection paper.

Each student has a field mentor who guides and supports them through their field experience project. Catalyst Consulting Group has provided two internship practicum experiences for a UST student in the program who helped us conduct successful organizational assessments for mid-sized nonprofit agencies. Since we have been so thrilled with the results, we are advocating for this program, which provides low or no cost assistance.
